The tribe reads too many books for their delicate feminine minds and moves into a high-rise apartment to discuss paranoia, Catholicism, systems of control and (much to Marissa’s delight) the patriarchy! So, don your tannis root necklaces and get your Vidal Sassoon on while listening to Catie and Marissa discuss horror realism and perceptual control in 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby.
The tribe digs into the Transylvanian dirt, carries it overseas all the way to Germany, and bites into the neck of philosophy, xenophobia, and the proverbial “other” with 1922’s Nosferatu. Plaguing your ears with Kafka, Locke, and Nietzsche, Marissa & Catie tackle the unheimlich nature of post-WWI Germany. Let the sun shine in!
The tribe goes into post-apocalypse-production and cuts a reel on social media desensitization turning us all into the living dead. Through a lens, darkly, and full of zombie guts.
Hello Horror Tribe!
We just got back from an amazing, just simply superb weekend in Gettysburg, PA at the first ever Pop, Rock ‘n’ Horror Convention. And what a brilliant group of people we got to meet!
I want to give a special shout out to Angela Bethany Goethals-soder for being an amazing human being. Her participation in the Women in Horror Panel we did was impromptu and glorious. I got the opportunity to speak to her about her audio-book recording after and she (and Nathan Baesel) are smart, fun, inviting people to talk to and obviously still amazing friends.
Cannot forget Vincente DiSanti and his Friday the 13th fan film Never Hike Alone. He joined us on the Women in Horror panel and the insights into the creators side as a writer/director were so meaningful and necessary. He’s also a stellar human being so look out for his work in the future. (You can’t miss him, he’s the one with the backpack!)
And a shout out to Craig Loydgren and his comedy special on Amazon Prime: Married & Miserable! One of the funniest guys we met all weekend and a joy to see around the con floor!
Later this week, we will drop some of the one-on-one interviews we did with con guests, and on Friday, we will be delivering Session 5 of Mise En Scream. We thank you all for your patience as we drop a new episode the first Friday of every month.
You can imagine there is a lot of love and time put into each episode of Mise En Scream to bring you enlightening and well-crafted content – and I know waiting a month can seem long – but in the meantime I’d like to plug my partner in screams Marissa and her podcast Jersey Ghouls.
Other amazing listening comes from Horror Movie Night podcast – who are a spectacular group of guys! These two helped put all the panels you saw at PRnH together and will be dropping the content on the casts to relive the con magic!
In the meantime, we encourage you to like our page on Facebook, follow us on Instagram (@mise_en_scream), and subscribe to our little academic endeavor that is Mise En Scream.
In the meantime, as always…stay spooky!
In this episode, Catie and Marissa explore Wes Craven’s The Last House on the Left.
